Blood in the stool can be very disconcerting and many patients worry about it when they see it. The most common cause of blood in the stool is hemorrhoids but the most worrisome thing is colon cancer. Anytime you see blood in the stool you should certainly discuss this with your regular physician and decide whether the next step should be colonoscopy.
