Prior to the colonoscopy, we bring you into the office and we discuss the risks and benefits and the indications for the colonoscopy. I believe it is very important that we have this discussion that way you understand exactly why we're doing this. Once we've done that, we give them instructions on the proper way to prep the colon. This is by far the most important part of the test and that it entails drinking a large quantity of fluid to clean up the colon. What we do is we generally have the patients drink part of it the night before the procedure and part of it the morning of. We ensure that the stools are clear. That way we know that when we do the colonoscopy we'll have the best look possible.
